An Electric Weekend at the GACC as Tsunami Rally for Michal

Your Tsunami had a packed week with three games in three days!

Game one kicked off on the road against the Richmond Sockeyes on January 29th. Heading into the third period, things weren’t looking great, with the Sockeyes up by five. But the Tsunami weren’t done yet. They came out swinging in the third, putting three goals on the board, one from Foxx McColl and two from Luke Curtin. The final score was 6–3 for Richmond, but that late push showed exactly what this team is capable of and set the tone for the rest of the weekend.

After a quick sleepover in the city, the Tsunami headed to Chilliwack to take on the Jets. The last time these two teams met wasn’t the Tsunami’s strongest showing, but this time around they battled hard, pushing the Jets all the way to overtime. Unfortunately, they came up just short, falling 3–2, but we saw goals from Ryan Heuser and Spencer Huth, along with an incredible performance from Brayden Burrows, who faced 46 shots on net.

To wrap up the weekend, the Tsunami returned home to a sold-out crowd at the GACC to face the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers in a game dedicated to Michal Habetin. And wow… the community really showed up. It was easily one of the most electric crowds the GACC has seen all season.

The Tsunami knew they needed a hometown win and boy did they deliver. Scoring opened in the second period when Connor Green netted his first-ever junior hockey goal, a moment so loud they probably heard the cheers all the way in Port Coquitlam. The second goal came late in the period from Braeden Payne, giving the Tsunami the edge they needed. Brayden Burrows was rock solid once again, stopping 35 shots and earning first star of the game. After 60 minutes of play, the Tsunami skated away with a hard-earned 2–1 victory.

Following the game, we hosted our social along with a live and silent auction to raise funds for Michal Habetin. The turnout was incredible. While we don’t have a final total just yet, we’ve already raised over $25,000 for Michal and his family, and donations are still coming in. Our Online Auction remains open until February 16th, so there’s still time to place a bid and show your support.

With the regular season winding down, there are still plenty of chances to come out and support the Coastal Tsunami as they make their push toward playoffs. They’re back home on February 7th to take on the Burnaby Steelers, followed by a doubleheader against the Chilliwack Jets on February 13th and 14th. Remember, the 13th is a 7:00 p.m. start, so come late and stay late! The Tsunami then hit the road on February 20th against the Burnaby Steelers, before closing out the regular season at home on February 21st against the Langley Trappers.

Let’s cheer extra loud this month!
