Sunshine Coast, B.C. – General Manager and Head Coach Brad Wingfield announced today that the team has committed to 2006-born forward Ben Walker (Sunshine Coast, BC).

The Tsunami committed Walker (6’2”, 184 pounds) after spending the previous season with the Vancouver North West Hawks U18 AAA. The right-shot forward posted 13 goals and 30 assists for 43 points in 36 games.

“I’m excited to get started. I know the coaches. Brad has coached me my whole life, so I’m really excited to get going,” said Walker.

Last season, he was an affiliate player in the Pacific Junior Hockey League with the Delta Ice Hawks. In eight games with Delta, he registered two goals and two assists for four points.

“I don’t know much about the PJHL, but I played a few games with the Ice Hawks last year, and they were really competitive. It was speedy, good players, and a really good league,” he explained.

Walker will surely be a fan favourite with the Tsunami, and the organization is delighted to have him on the roster.

“We are so excited to get Ben locked up. Not only is he local, but he’s a player I’ve known for many years,” said Head Coach and General Manager Brad Wingfield. He added, “He comes from a great family and is of the highest character.”

“Look for Ben to be a huge part of the Tsunami, bringing a combination of speed, size, and power along with huge offensive upside to his game,” explained Wingfield.

Walker is the first of many players committed to playing for the new expansion franchise, the Tsunami, which will begin its preseason in August.
