Curtin’s Record-Breaking Night Fuels Tsunami Victory

The Tsunami kicked off last week on the right foot with a strong home win against the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers, then spent the remainder of the week practicing and preparing for a matchup with the Burnaby Steelers on February 7th.

The Steelers came to the Gibsons & Area Community Centre and opened the scoring early in the first period. The Tsunami responded in a big way, firing back with three goals from Ryan Heuser, Spencer Huth, and Rocky Nordvie. After one, your Tsunami held a 3–2 lead.

In the second period, Luke Curtin scored his first goal of the night, his 21st of the season, officially breaking the Tsunami’s single-season scoring record. And he wasn’t done yet. Curtin added two more goals in the third period to complete an electric hat trick. With just 20 seconds left on the clock, Lucas Lekakis sealed the deal with an empty-net goal, as the Tsunami skated away with a 7–4 victory over the Steelers.

A huge shoutout also goes to Brayden Burrows, who stood tall in net with 37 saves, then capped off the night by bench-pressing the net at the final buzzer, sending the GACC crowd into a frenzy.

Now, the Tsunami turn their focus to a big double-header weekend at home against the Chilliwack Jets. Fans, mark your calendars: puck drops Friday, February 13th at 5:00, and Saturday, February 14th at 5:00. Following Saturday’s game, join us for our Awards Ceremony in Room 219 at the arena. Stick around and help us celebrate our award winners!

It’s shaping up to be a full-on Tsunami party all weekend long. We’ll see you there!
