Sunshine Coast, B.C. – General Manager and Head Coach Brad Wingfield announced today that the team has committed to 2006-born defender Meryk Bell (Gibsons, BC).
Bell (6’2”, 195 pounds) spent the past season in the JPHL with the Langley Hockey Academy U18 team, collecting a goal and an assist in 31 regular season games.
“I’ve been looking forward to playing junior hockey my whole life, and I can’t believe it’s happening in my hometown,” said Bell.
The left-shot defender is the second local-born player to sign with the Tsunami.
‘I’ve known Meryk for many years, having coached him in minor hockey; the big-bodied defender can play a shutdown role and be a physical presence from our back end; he has the potential to chip in on offence and will get that opportunity with us,” said Head Coach and General Manager Brad Wingfield.
Bell is the fourth of many players committed to playing for the new expansion franchise, the Tsunami, which will begin its preseason in August.
