PROUD MEMBERS OF JUNIOR A TIER 1 HOCKEY

MESSAGE FROM MAYOR SILAS WHITE

12/01/23

Welcome to tonight’s very special event, the GBS Charity Hockey Classic!

First, I extend another warm Sunshine Coast welcome to the Canucks Alumni as they make their third visit to Gibsons. Tonight promises to be particularly special.

The Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation & Association, through the leadership of Arthur Griffiths, Bob Murray, Dave Babych and many others, have helped raise millions of dollars for British Columbia charities with a focus on youth. The Alumni are here tonight to help the Sunshine Coast Junior Hockey Society raise awareness and funds for an important Building Project that will help all users of this facility including of course our new junior team.

Next season, in September 2024, junior hockey hits the ice in Gibsons. The entire region, from Port Mellon to Earl’s Cove, is excited that the Pacific Junior Hockey League has chosen this area for expansion. Tonight is an ideal opportunity to celebrate this, so be sure to wave those Coastal Tsunami towels!

On behalf of the Town of Gibsons, I would like to thank all participants in tonight’s game – the Canucks Alumni and the Coastal All-Stars – and the many volunteers who have worked very hard to help make this evening possible.

Hockey is another way to help build our great community. Thank you for being here this evening, and have fun!

Sincerely,

Silas White, Mayor

Town of Gibsons
