We’re back, Tsunami fam! Did you miss us? Because we missed you!
A lot has changed since we last saw each other. The Tsunami, along with 21 other teams, came together to create the BCHC, British Columbia’s only sanctioned Junior A hockey league. New league, new season, and a few new faces on the bench! Leading the way this year are Head Coach & GM Briar McNaney, Associate Coach & Assistant GM Erik Tuff, and Assistant Coaches Matt Siddall and Dalton Thrower. They’ve spent the summer putting together a team we think Tsunami fans are going to have a lot of fun watching.
And this weekend, we finally got our first sneak peek at the 2026-27 Coastal Tsunami. Tsunami fam, you showed up! We had 417 fans in the building Saturday and another 407 on Sunday for our exhibition weekend against the Chilliwack Jets. Not bad for August!
On the ice, the Tsunami gave us plenty to get excited about. Newcomer Tyson Ekstrom found the back of the net twice, with Ryan Heuser, Ben Walker and Liam Befus (who made the journey all the way from Norway to join the Tsunami) each adding a goal of their own. It was a great first showing and gave us plenty to look forward to as the team continues through the preseason.
The boys have two more exhibition games before the regular season gets underway. They’ll head to Langley on September 2 to take on the Trappers before visiting Delta on September 5 for a matchup with the Ice Hawks.
Then it gets real. The Tsunami play their first official BCHC regular-season game September 13 in Chilliwack against the Jets.
While the team is busy on the road, the rest of us will be getting ready for something we’ve been waiting all summer for: HOME OPENING WEEKEND!
The Tsunami return home September 26 & 27, taking on the Burnaby Steelers and Port Coquitlam Trailblazers. If this weekend’s crowds were any indication, I have a feeling the rink is going to be a pretty fun place to be this season.
And if cheering from the stands isn’t quite enough for you, come join us behind the scenes! We’re looking for volunteers to join our Game Night Crew this season, including 50/50 sellers, Game Hosts, Ticket Scanners and Penalty Box Attendants.
