Friday evening was not a good night for the Coastal Tsunami, as the club lost its first-ever game, a 5-3 loss to the White Rock Whalers.
It was a game that could have gone either way, but a win was simply not meant to be for the Tsunami.
The home team had one-goal leads twice during the game but ultimately failed to hold either. The Tsunami gave up five goals and were not great in their zone. The team was slow to pucks and had difficulty passing the puck to one another.
Justin Osborne (3), Jeevin Bal (3), Zachary Johns (1), Cash Dumka-Jones (1), and Max Lyons (1) all scored for the visitors. Dumka-Jones’ goal was his first in a Whalers uniform as the defenceman was recently acquired from the Langley Trappers.
The Tsunami got goals from Cameron Ross (2), Braeden Payne (1), and Ethan Smid (4). Payne tipped a shot past Whalers goaltender Zach MacDonald for his first-ever PJHL goal.
Nick Peters made 33 of 37 saves, with one of the goals coming with the Tsunami pulling him for an extra attacker late in the third period. Zach MacDonald stopped 35 of the 38 shots fired his way for White Rock. The Tsunami will need to wait until October 18 when they host the Richmond Sockeyes for a back-to-back to get their crack at the Salish Cup.
Coastal is back at the GACC tomorrow for a 5:00 p.m. tilt against the Aldergrove Kodiaks. Tickets are available online and at the gate.
