White Rock, BC— The Tsunami (10-9-1-1) won a conference match-up in a hard-fought game against the White Rock Whalers (13-6-2-0). The victory gave the Tsunami their first victory in the battle of the Salish Cup and meant that they finished the weekend with two wins and a loss.
Four goals were scored in the first four minutes of the first period. Raydon Parkes (11) and Rocky Nordvie (2) put the visitors up by a pair before White Rock had a quick response from Travis Smythe (3) and Jonah Ussher (13).
Goals were also even in the second period, with both teams finding the back of the net. Devon Mahil (9) scored to put White Rock up 3-2, and Raydon Parkes (12) scored to tie the game at 3.
In the third period, Max Lyons (5) gave White Rock a 4-3 lead, which was later erased by three consecutive goals from Coastal to complete the game. Those three goals came from Rocky Nordvie (3), Patrick Dolan (4), and Eric Stinson (5) on the man advantage.
Coastal went 1/2 on the power play and stopped White Rock’s power on all five attempts despite the Whalers owning the second-best power play in the league.
Despite being outshot 46-34, the Tsunami stayed in the game thanks to goaltender Finn Morrison and the whole team working together to get the job done.
Next is a tilt on the Coast against the Mission City Outlaws this Friday. Tickets are available online and at the arena.
