What a weekend, Tsunami fam!
Your Coastal Tsunami took on the Chilliwack Jets in a thrilling weekend doubleheader, and boy, did they put on a show! From an unforgettable Pride Night to a big win on Pink in the Rink Night, there’s a lot to cover, so let’s break it down game by game!
Friday marked our first-ever Pride Night, and wow, did you show up! The arena was filled with love, acceptance, and plenty of Tsunami pride. Our limited-edition Tsunami Pride hats were a huge hit, with nearly every one finding a new home! A massive thank you to TTHE (This Tournament Has Everything) and Sunshine Coast Pride for helping us bring this incredible night to life.
Now, let’s talk hockey! The Tsunami came out HOT in the first period, with goals from Tait Harris, Gavin Smith, and Tyson Ekstrom. Max Wingrove, Jacob Collins, Meryk Bell, Josh Cymbaluk, and Tait Harris all picked up assists. In the second, Bryson Robinson netted his first goal of the season, with assists from Kai Smith and Ben Walker. But the Jets weren’t going down without a fight. By the end of the third, they’d battled back to tie things up, sending us into overtime. And what an overtime it was! At one point, the arena was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Then, Ben Walker got ahold of the puck, found the back of the net, and sent the entire crowd to their feet! Gavin Smith picked up the assist on the game-winning goal, securing a 5-4 Tsunami victory! Between the pipes, Hayden Paris had another incredible night, facing 38 shots and helping the Tsunami come out on top. Not a bad way to wrap up our first Pride Night!
Saturday was our Pink in the Rink Night, as we came together to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Jets came into the game with something to prove, putting two goals on the board in the first period. But Gavin Smith got the scoring started for the Tsunami, and the boys were just getting warmed up! In the second, Max Wingrove scored the lone goal of the period, with assists from Tait Harris and Tyson Ekstrom. Then came a BUSY third period! Ben Walker, Tyson Ekstrom, Gavin Smith, and Tait Harris all found the back of the net, while Tristan Anderlini racked up three assists, with Tait Harris and Tyson Ekstrom each adding another. Parker Parrish was also putting in the work in net, facing 39 shots and earning himself the Hardest Working Player of the Game award! When the final buzzer sounded, the Tsunami had secured another big win, taking down the Jets 6-3 and completing the weekend sweep!
After a weekend like that, the boys have definitely earned a little break! They’ll be back on home ice on October 31st, taking on the Burnaby Steelers for our Halloween game! Make sure you come dressed in your best costume, because we’ll have prizes for our best-dressed fans! Then, on November 1st, the Tsunami hit the road to take on the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers.
We’ll see you at GACC, Tsunami fam! The season is really starting to heat up, and we can’t wait to see what’s next!
Pucks & Kisses,
Sassy Tsu
