Playoffs are officially underway for your Coastal Tsunami, and Round 1 has already delivered plenty of excitement.
The action kicked off in Delta for Game 1 against the Ice Hawks. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the start the Tsunami were hoping for, as they were bested by the Ice Hawks 4-0.
Game 2 at the GACC was a completely different story. Even on a Thursday night, the arena was packed and buzzing. Delta jumped out to an early lead, scoring three in the first period and leaving fans wondering who would net the Tsunami’s first-ever playoff goal.
That moment finally came in the second period, when Kael Jackson etched his name into franchise history with the Tsunami’s first playoff goal.
Things looked bleak early in the third, with the Tsunami trailing 7–1. But if you left early, you missed one of the most electric comebacks this rink has ever seen.
First it was Tayvian Delorme, then Lucas Lekakis, then Luke Curtin… twice, and Lekakis again. Suddenly it was 7–6, and the crowd was holding their breath as the clock ticked down.
Then, with just 40 seconds remaining, Lucas Lekakis completed the hat trick, tying the game 7–7 and sending the arena into absolute chaos.
After a scoreless first overtime, the teams headed to double OT. Unfortunately, Delta found the winner, taking the game 8–7. A heartbreaking finish, but one that proved the Tsunami had the firepower and resilience to compete.
Game 3 was back in Delta, and Tsunami fans showed up in a big way. Nearly two full sections were filled with travelling supporters, cheering and chanting all night long.
The Tsunami fed off that energy.
Rocky Nordvie opened the scoring in the first, followed by goals from Luke Curtin and Raydon Parkes, each one met with roaring approval from the travelling crowd. In the second, Reegan Kominko added another.
From there, the team dug in defensively, determined to avoid another marathon overtime. After 60 hard-fought minutes, and an incredible performance from Brayden Burrows, the Tsunami secured their first-ever playoff win, 4–3.
Game 4 brought the series back to a packed GACC. The energy was high, the tension even higher.
Goals came from Nolan Caruso, Ben Walker, and two from Spencer Huth, while both Brayden Burrows and Austin Kindrat delivered stellar performances in net.
After 60 minutes, the game was tied 4–4.
Overtime was edge-of-your-seat hockey. Chances at both ends had the crowd gasping. The first OT solved nothing. The second was just as intense. And just as fans braced for a third overtime… Delta found the back of the net, taking the game 5–4.
The series now sits 3–1 in favour of the Ice Hawks.
Game 5 heads back to Delta on March 4th at 6:15. If needed, Game 6 returns to the GACC on March 6th at 5:00, and Game 7 is back in Delta on March 7th at 7:00.
Keep cheering from near and far and send all your positive energy as the Tsunami continue their Round 1 battle.
Pucks and Kisses,
Sassy Tsu 🏒💙
