There’s No Place Like Home: Tsunami Sweep the Weekend

The Coastal Tsunami are officially back in action! After kicking off the season with three games on the road, the boys came home and lit it up for an exciting two-game Home Opening Weekend!

The Tsunami started the season on the road in Chilliwack, then headed to Richmond before wrapping up the road stretch in Delta. Then it was finally time to come home to a packed arena on the Sunshine Coast!

The Tsunami welcomed the Burnaby Steelers for Saturday’s Home Opener, followed by the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers on Sunday, with more than 1,000 fans coming through the doors over the weekend! When we say we have the best fans in the league, we really mean it!

The boys came out hot on Saturday night, reminding us all why we love Tsunami hockey. Ryan Heuser found the back of the net twice, with Ben Walker, Liam Befus and Max Wingrove each adding one of their own. It was also a standout night for goaltender Hayden Paris, who faced 48 shots and let just one get past him. The Tsunami wrapped up night one with a 5–1 Home Opener win, giving everyone plenty to look forward to heading into game two.

Sunday night brought just as much excitement. The boys came out flying again, but despite plenty of chances, neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period. In the second, the Tsunami locked in. Spencer Huth and Liam Befus each found the back of the net to give Coastal a 2–0 lead. The Trailblazers weren’t going away quietly, though, answering with two goals late in the third to send the game to overtime. The tension in the arena was thick as the clock ticked down, and then Max Wingrove finished the game with a goal that had the whole crowd on their feet. The Tsunami secured their second win of the weekend, taking down the Trailblazers 3–2 and completing the Home Opening Weekend sweep!

Now we head into October, and there’s LOTS of Tsunami hockey coming your way. The team will play 11 games throughout the month, including 6 right here at home. You can catch the Tsunami next on Friday, October 2 at 5:00 PM when they welcome the Langley Trappers. It’s also Orange Shirt Night, and the team will debut this year’s Orange Jerseys in recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Day. Then on Saturday, the boys hit the road to take on the Delta Ice Hawks at 7:00 PM at Sungod Arena.

If you haven’t already jumped on the bandwagon, now’s the time, it’s shaping up to be a great season of Tsunami hockey on the Sunshine Coast!
