Coastal Sports and Entertainment Group Ltd. is proud to announce the hiring of Briar McNaney as the Director of Player Personnel and Development for the Coastal Tsunami, ahead of the club’s upcoming season and entry into the new Junior A division of the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL).

McNaney brings a wealth of experience to the role, with a strong background in both coaching and scouting:

  • Eight seasons of junior hockey coaching experience, including five as a Head Coach
  • Became a Head Coach at just 27 years old and has remained in the position ever since
  • Five years of scouting experience for multiple junior and collegiate programs
  • Played junior hockey in British Columbia and received offers to play professionally in Germany and Sweden before choosing to pursue coaching
  • Featured in The Coaches Club by the National Scouting Alliance (NSA)

Rick Hopper, Director of Operations for the Tsunami, expressed enthusiasm about the addition to the staff:

“We are excited to add Briar to our staff for the upcoming season and our entry into the new Jr A Division of the PJHL. His recent experience in the KIJHL and the SJHL will serve our organization well in helping us deliver a first-class Junior Hockey Program,” said Hopper.

“Briar takes over the Player Personnel role from Jeff Nottingham and will also be working extensively with our players and staff in player development, both on and off the ice.”

McNaney is equally eager to begin this new chapter in his career:

“Joining the Tsunami is an exciting new opportunity for me, and I can’t wait to start.

As a second-year franchisee, I’m blessed with the challenge of helping a great group of people establish a culture and organization that can thrive for an extended period—something I haven’t had the opportunity to do yet in my career.

I was blown away by the potential and drive of the staff and volunteers involved with the team when I attended their spring combine. The facilities and development program are top-notch, and the fans are a major part of why I decided to sign on.”
