Sunshine Coast, B.C. – General Manager and Head Coach Brad Wingfield announced today that the team has committed to 2004-born forward Ethan Smid (Williams Lake, BC).
Smid (5’8”, 170 pounds) spent the past two seasons in the CIJHL with the Williams Lake Stampeders. He suited up in 27 games and registered six goals and 16 assists.
“It’s an honour to join the Tsunami and this passionate hockey community; I’m excited to get started,” said Smid.
The left-shot product recently suited up in the 101st Coy Cup in Powell River this past spring, playing against Tsunami Associate Coach Caymen Froude.
“With Ethan, we gain a couple of things; he provides us with experience from a higher level, coming by the unconventional way of playing senior men’s AA for the Williams Lake Stampeders the past two seasons,” said General Manager and Head Coach Brad Wingfield.
“He also has the rare ability to play both forward or defence effectively. He will add valuable experience and will be an overage player with us that we will count on for leadership,” he added.
Smid is the fourteenth player committed to playing for the new expansion franchise, the Tsunami, which will begin its preseason in August.
